pseudo-Friday randomness
Apr. 21st, 2011 03:34 pmI've been trying to get a post up all freaking week, but work has actually been fairly busy (finally!) and then I get sidetracked when I get home, so here's a random list post, because it's my Friday for this week, since I have tomorrow off as a stat holiday.
i. Yay long weekend! I'm going to be spending it doing housework, which isn't particularly exciting, but it will be nice once it's done. I put "have the house all clean and organized by my 35th birthday", which is a week from tomorrow, on my 101 in 1001 list, so I gotta get on it!
ii. I've been emailing back and forth with a tattoo artist recommended by
estrellada about my first tattoo. I'm hoping it won't be TOO expensive, so that I can get it sometime in the not-too-distant future. As it turns out, this particular tattooist is also an artist and will include the drawing in the cost of the tattoo. Her art is gorgeous too, so I'm not worried about that part at all.
iii. I now have a 4 day weekend! Our process server came by this morning and asked if I had both, so that gave me the opportunity to ask my boss and he asked me what most firms do, so I told him - most firms that I've worked at seem to give both Good Friday and Easter Monday off, so that's what I get here. I am SO looking forward to 4 days off in a row.
iv. I knocked an item off my 101 in 1001 list earlier this week - I found out my blood type! I was going to donate blood to find out and do a good deed at the same time, but then I discovered that I'm disqualified from donating. So I looked into other ways of finding out (because apparently just asking to have it checked while you're having blood drawn for other tests doesn't work - I tried a few years back). Eventually I found that the "Eat Right for Your Type" people (the concept of which I think is likely a pile of horseshit) puts out a little kit that you can do at home to find out, so I ordered one. I now know that I have A negative blood (which the ER4YT people say means I should be a vegetarian. HA! like that's gonna happen)
v. I'm learning a new piece for the harp called "Frog Galliard". This makes me giggle considering the Boot-Licking Toadies stuff, which will only make sense to local SCA types. Hehe. In any case, it's period, and will be really pretty once it's practiced up.
vi. I have a naalbinded hat almost finished! It makes a really good transit project.
vii. I'm still trying to get used to my new salary and pay schedule, which means that other than things that have been planned for a while (ie. my friend birthday dinner on the 29th), things are going to be pretty tight until first payday in May. I can HARDLY FREAKING WAIT until June/July, which is when my extra paycheque lands (I've spent the last 6 years, with the exception of my temping stints, being paid twice a month, and now I'm on a every-2-weeks schedule, so I now have the twice-yearly 3 cheques in one month thing happening). That will let me even things out so I'm not paying rent, car payment AND car insurance all off the same cheque.
viii. Things are actually going really well with Ian lately. <3 He earned himself some major brownie points yesterday/today, too. I made a pan of enchiladas with homemade tomatillo sauce on Tuesday, and while they looked good, when I finally tasted them... ick. He liked them though. So last night he brought me home an Annie Chun's noodle bowl from work so that I could take that for lunch today instead, and it was VERY good. He is very gradually and steadily improving things more and more as time goes on, and I'm thrilled. We had an awesome weekend together last weekend too.
ix. Speaking of Ian, he actually volunteered to work the stat shift tomorrow since it will result in him being paid essentially 2.5X his normal rate for the whole day, so that he'd have extra money to take me to dinner on my birthday and buy me a birthday present. Plus I get the present of a day off without him getting in my way, so I can get some stuff done around the house! Things may be going great, but I'm still an introvert at heart who needs plenty of time to herself.
x. I can't think of a number 10. :)
