Today's BPAL: Dirty. The name is a joke, because this is actually the sent of fresh laundry, sheets drying in the sun, and cool, crisp cotton. This is actually one of the first scents I bought a 5ml bottle of after testing an imp, because it's absolutely gorgeous, and perfect for the (scorching) weather we've been having this week. I was in a hurry this morning so I hurriedly grabbed something out of my BPAL box, and when I saw the bottle I immediately went for it as it would be perfect for today.

Oh! I just realized that I haven't updated you all on the roommate saga. It's done! Well, he hasn't moved out yet, but we had started a conversation on Friday evening, and it had been left off when he said to me "ok, make me a proposal". Which kind of made me get my back up, considering. I did some thinking, and talked to Ian and [profile] istp_archer about it, and had a proposal in my head, though I didn't get a chance to talk to him on the weekend. Last night, I mentioned to the roommate that he hadn't given me money for May's utilities yet, and he took that opportunity to continue on with the conversation from Friday.

The result is this: he's going to try to be out for the end of June. He doesn't think he'll be able to find a place that fast, I call BS because there's lots of places out there. He darned well be putting in the effort of looking, anyways. I'm going to be giving him a half month's rent. I explained to him that I didn't feel I was his landlord in the sense of the word used in the Residential Tenancy Act, etc. and that as the only person the lease and the person who has been living in that suite for 3 1/2 years, I had the right to give him a few months' notice that I wanted him to leave. He countered with his feeling of yes I am his landlord, blah blah, and in the end he stated that he felt he was entitled to SOMETHING because he knows I'm a legal assistant and that if I was in his place, I'd be insisting on getting the money. Sigh.

So I offered him a half month's rent, and he took it. And because he hasn't paid me last month's utilities, I'm just taking 2 months worth of utilities off of the half month's rent (for May and June) and paying him the difference, which is only $130. In the end, I think $130 is actually worth it to get rid of the asshole.

And I also placed conditions on it. He has to lay the hell off of me with the nagging about the housework and Ian (he hates it when Ian stays over during the week). He hasn't seemed to actually grasped the fact that he actually has to lay off of me yet though, because he mentioned the housework several times last night. I just ignored him. What an idiot.

Today's BPAL: Blue Moon. This is the June 2007 version, which I bought 2 years ago and it's been sitting since then unused. I suspect I took off the lid, sniffed it, and then it just sat there. Sheesh. Anyways, my verdict? Meh. It's pretty, but it turns to a very typical "floral perfume" to me, with absolutely nothing special about it. I think it's going into the sale pile.

For some unknown reason, I was in a terrific mood this morning, and that has mostly continued up until this point - hopefully the rest of my day will be just as good. I didn't get quite enough sleep last night, but I seem to be getting by just fine on what I did get, and I was out the door early enough to walk to the station and get to work for 6:45. I've decided to work a 4 day week so that I can have Friday off, and come in for 6:45 each morning so I can still be out of here at 2:15. Then on Friday, I'm going to go stand in line at the passport office so that I have my passport in time for my trip in July. Oh yay.

I'm probably going to skip archery practice tonight, since I still have a gigantic bruise on the inside of my left arm from last Thursday's practice, and because I'm in the mood to get some housework done tonight. I need to go deposit my paycheque after work and get some groceries first, and then I'll be heading home. Hopefully that stuff will be done in time for me to get some crafting done tonight, because that's the other thing I'm in the mood for.

smellies

I get my horoscope in my inbox daily from a couple different sources, but I have to say, I think I like Rob Brezsny's Free Will Astrology the best.  He's not really the typical woo-woo prediction type astrologer, and his horoscopes are generally food for thought.

Taurus (April 20-May 20) :
In recent decades, many British people with unfortunate surnames have changed them. There are now 40 percent fewer Shufflebottoms, while the numbers of Cockshotts and Smellies have also declined precipitously. Meanwhile, back in the U.S., the government has re-branded its notorious Global War on Terror, shifting to the more palatable "Overseas Contingency Operation." I hold these examples up for your inspiration, Taurus. It's a good time to alter any name or title you've outgrown, as well as any label that no longer fits or any category you'd like to leave behind.

Hmm.  I'm having trouble thinking of anywhere I haven't already done this.  Still good advice though.

Strawberry Moon is up over at Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab, and as I've been itching for a strawberry scent since oh, some time LAST spring, I will definitely be putting in an order.  I also like the sounds of Boadicea, so I'm pondering a bottle of that as well.

Today's BPAL is Sri Lanka.  I just randomly picked out an imp I hadn't tried yet, but I'm very pleasantly surprised by this one.  The Lab description is "Indian sandalwood and cedar, and the dry incense smoke of olibanum, gum mastic, patchouli and myrrh".  Given the ingredients, it's not surprising I'm liking it - I adore incense-y type scents, as well as sandalwood and patchouli.

Apparently my jacket pocket is like a black hole. Things go in... and come out months later.

I discovered a small hole in the lining today. In digging around in there, I found:

two lip balms
my long-lost hair clip which I was sorely missing
a BPAL imp (Queen of Sheba, if you're curious)
a pen
and $1.60 in coins

Jezebel

Today's BPAL is Jezebel. The official description: Biblical witch, priestess of Astarte, and general troublemaker. A true role model for today's upwardly mobile Modern Woman. A gloriously decadent blend of honey, roses, orange blossom and sandalwood. While I love the description, it's not quite right for me - I tend to prefer fruity/foody/spicy scents, I'm finding. This is a VERY aged imp, it came to me from someone who's had it for at least a couple years. I'm smelling mostly the roses and sandalwood, I think, and those two in combination just don't seem to do it for me.

As of this morning, I've shaved about five minutes off of my morning commute in under a week! I had a really good train connection - it was pulling up as I stepped off the elevator, but most of the time reduction was me walking faster.

I'm seeing a bit of blue sky out my window today, and I'm hoping that it clears up a bit more as the day goes on. That would be really nice. I'm quite looking forward to my evening tonight. Yesterday was crazy hectic, and I didn't get much time to actually relax. Tonight, I'm going straight home from work, and I have no raids tonight. My intent is to do a bit of tidying up when I get home, do a bit of piano practice or possibly pull out my harp, and then spend most of the evening either doing lampworking or sewing. I'm heading over to a friend's place on Sunday for sewing and movies, and I'd like to get the machine-sewn portion of my outfit out of the way so I don't have to drag my machine over to her house, and I can just sit and hand-stitch.

Today's BPAL is Queen Mab. There's something about it that reminds me of Oscar de la Renta, though I'm pretty sure that if I was to sniff them both close together, it wouldn't be 100% identical. It's close enough that it's triggering scent memory, though. My grandmother (who I am very close to and absolutely adore more than anyone else in the world) wears Oscar as her
signature scent, and I cannot help but think of her when I smell it.

Speaking of my grandma, I think it's about time for me to plan a trip to visit them for the weekend sometime soon. I saw them at Christmas, but I want to start making a habit of getting over there every few months as I really miss them.

I got into work a half hour later than intended today as I had to stop by the lab and let the vampires take some blood from me again. Just doing a round of "better safe than sorry", I'm not sick or anything. I walked down the hill to work afterwards which was a good 20-25 minute hike. All this exercise I'm getting is making me feel great though.

Last week my office was way too warm, but today it's actually on the chilly side and I had to turn the fan down to low (I like having some air circulating all the time). I think I will have to get or knit a shawl to keep at work for days like today.

Speaking of shawls, I ordered an absolutely gorgeous shawl pin from Etsy this morning. I will post a picture once I receive it.

rambling

Geez it's grey outside. A bit of a downer after the gorgeous sun we had yesterday afternoon. Actually, yesterday's weather was a little schizophrenic - we started out with a bit of sun, around 9:30 it started pouring but stopped fairly quickly, and then eventually it cleared up to almost totally clear skies.

I'm wearing BPAL's Carnal today, but you'd almost never know it... apparently my skin eats it. There's one to add to the "pretty but don't order a bottle" pile. Ever since I started my new job, I've actually been remembering to put on jewelry and perfume. Next thing you know, I'm going to end up wearing makeup. Actually, after reading [livejournal.com profile] moukin's posts lately, I'm getting tempted to order some samples from Everyday Minerals.

I slept like a baby after all my exercise yesterday. In fact, I was extremely thankful my raid ended early, as I didn't sleep very well on Sunday night and was absolutely exhausted by the time I went to bed last night. I was in bed by 9:30 and probably asleep by 10, and would have slept through to 6am this morning if my damned cat hadn't been whining at the window to be let in at midnight (she darted out when I opened the door to let Onyx in, who had snuck out earlier when I put recycling out, and I hadn't even noticed him being gone).

We had an EXTREMELY good raid though... it only took us maybe 5 or 6 tries total, and we got our guild-first kill of Sartharion + 3 drakes. This means I now have my Twilight Vanquisher title! No new gear for me, but I was thrilled to see one of our officers who I really like get the special mount, instead of one of the jerks that have joined the guild recently.

I had originally been on backup last night, but they decided at the last minute to have 7 healers instead of 6, so I was pulled in. My original plan had been to pump ventrilo (the voice chat program we use while raiding) through my speakers so that I could listen in while I sat at the kitchen table doing lampworking, but when I pulled out my supplies, I discovered that it had been so long since I've done any that my bead release was completely dried up. Thankfully it can be reconstituted with water, so I just added some and sat at my desk shaking the jar and periodically adding more water to get it back to the right consistency to be usable. So I will be able to get back to my torch tonight! I have plans for a new set of beads for myself to go with the new outfit I'm making, plus plans for some other stuff as well. And I'm seriously thinking an annealing kiln is definitely in my future.
