ravnsdaughter: (fairy doors)

Nine loves:

1. Ian. For all he drives me crazy, I really do love him.

2. My pets. I love coming home and having Cody come running to the door and try to jump up to give me kisses. I love Hermione and her need to be within a few feet of me almost all the time, and the way she may hate to be touched, but she shows her love by curling up in the small of my back when I go to bed at night. Onyx and his curling up on my hip at night. And Ember and the way she comes bounding up onto my chest when I sit on the couch, and starts kneading my boobs.

3. Music. I love listening to it, singing, playing instruments, everything about it.

4. Glass and fire. I really do seem to have found my medium.

5. the SCA. It really does feel like home to me.

6. My friends. You're all awesome.

7. diet Pepsi. I'm so totally addicted.

8. creating things with my hands, and buying things others have created with their hands

9. games. Of all kinds, not just WoW. Computer games, board games, card games... just not head games. :)

I was going to post this yesterday, but after getting my computer all up and running properly again, it of course wanted to install fifty billion Windows updates, and then my internet connection was going up and down like a yo-yo. Just mine - Ian's was fine. I have no idea why. Anyways, I went to restart my computer to see if that would help, and my computer decided to take a huge break and install things, so I gave up on it and went to bed. Ah well.

Day Four: Seven (semi-) interesting things you've pondered or thought about recently.
Oh geez, they've gotta be at least semi-interesting???

1. Where to go modern camping this summer.
2. Bridesmaid choices
3. What other plants I'd like to put on my balcony
4. Ideas for lampworking and making jewelry sets.
5. What to make from the fabric I have stashed.
6. Going swimming
7. What colour to paint our walls.

Day Five: Six things you are glad you did.

1. Getting back together with Ian
2. Declaring bankruptcy
3. Moving to the lower mainland
4. Getting the hell off the PVP server when I did
5. Keeping Cody after the accident where he bit me
6. Buying my car

Day Six: Five books/movies/tv series/etc that you'd recommend.
Day Seven: Four silly quirks.
Day Eight: Three pet peeves.
Day Nine: Two things for which you're proud of yourself.
Day Ten: One secret plan.

So I went to answer the Resistance is Futile meme questions that [livejournal.com profile] wulfstan gave me, and I remembered that I'd gotten questions from [livejournal.com profile] lynda a while back and hadn't answered them yet. So I answered them both!

Here's how it works:

Post "Resistance is futile" as a comment on this post, and I'll reply with 5 questions. Then post the questions, and your answers, in your blog. Easy, yes?

questions from [livejournal.com profile] lynda

1. What did you and Ian do on your first date? Did you immediately know the relationship would turn serious?
We met up at a skytrain station, went for lunch, wandered around a bit, and then hung out at his place for a while. No, I didn't immediately know it would turn serious. In fact, after the first date, I thought he was a total dork. It took us about 3 weeks to have a second date, and after that I still thought he was a dork, and even told [livejournal.com profile] jazdewills that if I told her I was going to see him again, that she should remind me that I said that after the 2nd date. But we continued to chat online, and I really enjoyed talking to him, so a couple weeks later I decided to see him again. Jaz reminded me of what I said, and I said "I don't care, I'm bored and lonely, I'm going to see him anyway." By date #3, he'd gotten used to me enough that he lost his nervousness, which is what was causing me to think he was a dork. So date #3 was fun enough that I decided to start seeing him regularly, and somewhere in the month or so after that, it got serious.

2. I know you identify as pagan. What does that mean to you?
To me, it largely means having a huge respect for nature and the earth, being more in tune with the earth's cycles, seeing diety as having both a feminine AND masculine aspect, and practicing a religion that encourages thinking for oneself.

3. When/How did you decide to open your own business? Do you like this day job or does it just pay the bills to give you more time to do other stuff you love?
To be honest... I hadn't thought about it until I GOT this job. My boss wanted me to work on contract, which lended itself to functioning as a business, but really, I am still just a plain 'ol legal assistant. I'm still working on the whole opening a craft business on Etsy thing. Things got sidetracked during some of my down periods in the past 6-8 months.

4. I don't think I knew before reading your profile that you are a classically trained pianist. When did you start learning to play? How does this skill affect your current life?
I started taking piano lessons at age 5 or 6, I don't remember exactly. I took lessons for 11 years as a kid, and only stopped in my late teens because I was working and couldn't get a lesson time that wouldn't mess with my work schedule. This was such a dumb move, looking back on it. Anyways. I still play, though not as much as I should or want to. The skills I gained from it definitely still show in my day-to-day life. The fact that I can read music really strongly has made any other instrument I've wanted to take up quite a bit easier. I also have very dextrous fingers, and it has probably made getting my typing speed up a lot easier. I also have excellent hand-eye coordination. On the down side... playing the piano and now, spending as much time typing as I do... it means my fingernails grow like freaking weeds. I seriously have to cut them at least once a week or they become unmanageable.

5. What do you struggle with, if anything?
Oh SO many things. My weight, my mental state, keeping myself on track with tons of things. This question would take two entries all in itself to answer. :)

questions from [livejournal.com profile] wulfstan

1. How did you get started in the SCA?
Almost 14 years ago, I was on a date with someone who has since become a good friend that I don't talk to enough, and out of the blue, he said "Y'know, I think you would really like the SCA". He brought it up as a place that is very plus-size-friendly, since I am, and was at that time, a large person. I went home, looked it up on the internet, and went "that sounds SO COOL, I wanna join!". I went to a few things that fall, but didn't really get started until the following spring when I moved to the city, which of course had a large, active SCA branch.

2. How did you and Ian meet?
Online. Via Craigslist personal ad, actually. :)

3. What is your all-time favorite movie?
Love, Actually. :)

4. If you could travel to any one place, all expenses paid, for up to a month, where would it be?
Ireland. Absolutely no question there. Actually I'd probably do a combination Ireland/Scotland/Wales/England trip if I had a full month. But Ireland is one of the two parts of my heritage (the other being the Ukraine), plus the history and the art and the spirituality... it's pretty much my dream vacation.

5. What is a question you were hoping I would ask but didn't, and the answer to it?
Cop-out! :P Seriously, I have no idea. I had no questions in mind at all when I did the meme. :) Anybody else wanna ask me something?

Better late than never, right? :)

Transformation: I guess with all the changes I've made in the past year, this is a good word for me. I don't look all that different but boy do I feel different, and I live differently too. I may not be a beautiful butterfly quite yet, but I'm certainly not just a lowly caterpillar anymore.

Roommates: Argh... the bane of my existence. Over the years, I've had 11 different roommates, not counting the 2 boyfriends I've lived with. Of those, one is now married to one of my exes (though to be perfectly honest, she was a good friend at one time and I still miss her), one was a psycho who moved out in 2 months because I wouldn't clean up after her like her mom did and then brought friends over to threaten me when I withheld part of her damage deposit to pay for the utilities she never gave me, one was the biggest and stinkiest slob I've ever met in my life, the current one likes to act like my father and has turned out to be a creepy bully, and the rest were mostly ok. A couple were actually really decent. The most recent roommate (who is also the one that's lasted the longest - I think it's about 2 years now - has made me realize that there's only room for one control freak in my household, and that's me. Thank goodness Ian is so laid back and not a control freak at all.

WoW: This game has been a big part of my life for over 2 years now. My time in the game has had ups and downs, and for a long time was almost my entire life, outside of work and sleep. Thankfully, in the past few months, I have learned a lot more moderation and I'm not spending anywhere near as much time playing it anymore. But it's still a really fun game, and I'm actually just about to go back to raiding, after quitting a few weeks to a month ago or so. I've realized that I just needed a break and that I miss raiding; however the moderation I've learned recently will prevent me from letting it take over my life again like it did before, and I won't have any hesitation in either not signing up for a raid, or removing a signup because there's something going on in RL.

Crafts: I love making things. Especially pretty things that I can look at and say "I made that, isn't it pretty?" I love learning new crafts, and the weirder/more obscure the better. Also, the more I can work with the components from scratch, the better (ie. getting a fleece right off the sheep rather than always working with prepared rovings, etc). I think part of my love of crafts also has something to do with the fact that I love learning new things. This is why I really don't understand when people see me making something (like doing embroidery or knitting in public) and say "oh, I could never do that..." and it makes me think "well, why not? I taught myself, no reason you couldn't learn how too!"

Tea: how other people are with coffee, I am with tea. It flows through my veins, I swear.

Reply to this meme by yelling "Words!" and I will give you five words that remind me of you. Then post them in your LJ and explain what they mean to you.

(the explanation of my 5 from [livejournal.com profile] bunnyjadwiga will be coming up shortly.)

Seen all over the place lately...

The problem with Livejournal is that we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. Hence, I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don’t know about you.

Depending on how personal the question is I may filter my response.

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] jazdewills

The first 3 people to respond to this post will get something made by me. It will be about or tailored to those 3 lucky individuals. :-)

This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:

- I make no guarantees that you will like what I make! I however, will like it or it won't be sent out in the first place!
- what I create will be just for you. That doesn't mean it will fit exactly however...
- it'll be done this year~ish.
- you have no clue what it's going to be. I may leave clues though...
- I reserve the right to do something extremely strange. But you knew that already, didn't you?

The catch? Oh, the catch is that you have to put this in your journal as well, if you expect me to do something for you! (Obviously you can change the type of things you offer to fit you!) And, if you're overseas, you can still play too. :-)

B) Tag eight people. Don't refuse to do that. Don't tag who tagged you.
