taking a break from the housework
Feb. 2nd, 2011 03:28 pmI'm at home this week and next. I worked last week, and it went great, but then on Thursday afternoon, the office administrator came to me and said that I would unfortunately have to be off for two weeks because of a lack of desks. They have a consultant in the office analyzing something like 15-20 computers for evidence (they were seized without notice to the party so that the evidence couldn't be destroyed), and he'd been in a lawyer's office for the previous 2 weeks, but the lawyer was returning from vacation on Monday, so they needed to put him back at my desk. Well hmph. I then checked my Service Canada account, which said I didn't qualify for EI, but once I finally got through to them on the phone the next day, they said yes I would qualify once my record of employment made it into their computer. Whew.
So I'm off work, and while I spent the first few days off being a lazy slacker, today has been amazingly productive. Today is "get everything put away and where it belongs" day, and then tomorrow will be "actually clean things" day. Well, except for the kitchen and laundry, which I've already done and am in the process of doing, respectively.
The plan is to have everything spring cleaned by the time I go back to work, so that it'll just be maintenance once I'm back. That, and I will actually have lists made and a schedule for Ian to follow to do his share. I have no problem doing it all while I'm off like this, but once I go back, he's going to continue helping me and up his efforts a bit.
He's actually been doing AMAZING since I moved back in. The weeks I worked, he was pitching in (he even made the bed EVERY DAY last week, and I hadn't even asked him to. Wow!) and he has started catching himself when he reacts to something how he's always reacted and realizes he's being a bit of a jerk, and will stop what he's saying and apologize. Just... wow. It's awesome. :D
