lovely weekend
Jan. 24th, 2011 07:15 amMy weekend got off to a great start, considering I had the start of a new job waiting for me afterwards, but my weekend was lovely in its own right too.
I was up at 6:30 on Saturday, all on my own, no alarm, even, which made me hopeful that my sleep schedule was back on track, but unfortunately that wasn't the case in the end. I ended up tossing and turning both last night and Saturday night. I think eating dinner too late might be the culprit, so I'm going to start making a concerted effort to eat dinner a lot earlier from now on. But getting up that early made it easy to get a bunch of stuff done around the house before Ian got up.
Then he took me out to dinner, since I'd said I was really craving sushi. He suggested a place he'd read a review about - Taiko on Denman in downtown Vancouver. It was a bit of a drive, but it was SOOOOO worth it. Reasonably priced all you can eat sushi, with new and interesting things on the menu (mango california rolls!), and it was seriously the best sushi I've ever had. The service was great as well.
Sunday was more tidying, more WoW, and then Ian made really awesome ribs for dinner. He cooks them in the roaster in the oven first, rubbed with a mix of spices and brown sugar, and then transfers them to the barbecue to finish and glaze. Last night's glaze was maple-orange-dijon-whisky. SO good. I have to say when it comes to cooking meat, that man is a genius.
We finished dinner by breaking out the bottle of Raven Ridge Fuji Ice Cider that he'd bought earlier in the week as a treat for when I started working again. I think I'm in love with ice cider. It's like ice wine, only made from cider... and it was amazing.
Getting up this morning was difficult, because I know it was at least after 2am by the time I got to sleep, but hopefully I'll be able to get to sleep relatively early tonight. I was also pleasantly suprised to discover this morning that I had only gained back a very small amount of what I'd lost in the past month. I knew gaining a bit was inevitable once I regained my appetite, because weight lost by not eating won't stay off once you start eating again. But it wasn't much, and it'll come off again.
And now I'm off to my first day at my new job! I'm sure it will go well, and here's hoping it turns permanent quickly.
