Trying to catch up in one big post isn't working, so I figured I'd get the biggie out of the way: I have a new job! :) I haven't started it yet - it starts a week from Thursday, on the 22nd.
So here's the story:
I wasn't actively looking for a new job. Back in the fall, when I had my slight backslide on the depression and got put on probation (which I've been off of for months now), I called my agencies and had them reactivate me. When things improved at work, I stopped looking myself, but didn't bother telling the agencies to stop. So once in a blue moon, I would get a call from one of them if my skills matched the job. I actually turned down interviews with a few, because the commute would have been ridiculous, or the pay was less than I'm currently making, but this one sounded pretty reasonable so I said sure, I'd do the interview.
As it turned out, the interview they sent me for went really well, and the job sounded very similar to what I'm doing now - sole practitioner, family and wills & estates, super nice lawyer, etc. It's about a 3 minute drive or 5-10 minute bus ride, dependent on traffic. The difference between my current position and the new job? It's full time, salaried, with FULL benefits - medical/dental/disability insurance, holidays, sick time and stat holidays. I also get a free parking spot, so I will actually likely drive fairly often.
I got an offer that was low, salary wise (only 1k more than I make now, which is low considering my work hours will increase since I'm going from a 30-hour/week job to full time), but the benefits are worth a big chunk on top of that, so I took it.
I'm really excited to have a salaried position again, so that I can have holidays and stats off and stuff. The medical benefits are less of a concern, as Ian is putting me on his as of the end of the month, but if anything ever happened, having them as a backup is a good thing too.
So now I'm wondering what else is going to fall into my lap. First the dog, then the job... it comes in threes, right?
