September!

Today's BPAL: Pumpkin Queen. The Lab's description: The Glorious Grand Dame of the Pumpkin Patch! Regal Egyptian Amber, red ginger, orange peel, mandarin, cardamom, fig leaf and warm pumpkin. My response: mmmmmmmm. I smell mostly ginger and pumpkin, but to me this is the smell of Autumn. I went with this in honour of September 1st, and the cooling weather. It's making me want a pumpkin spice latte, but that would require me to walk down to Starbucks as Waves doesn't have pumpkin spice syrup, and it would also require me to break my "no buying food/drink out" resolution, so I will satisfy myself with peppermint tea here at work.

And so:

i. I has the sniffles. Ian has had a cold since Saturday, and I really hope I haven't caught it.

ii. My poor boy just got home from the opthamologist's office. On the weekend, he popped a stitch in his eye. He's had cornea transplants in both eyes, and they put stitches in to hold it while it heals, but don't bother taking them out after, unless they cause a problem because there's no point. No idea how he popped it, but it meant it had to come out.

iii. I have another package waiting at the post office for me, which I will pick up on my way home from work this afternoon. I have a few different things on the way to me, so it will be a surprise as to which package it is.

iv. I then get to re-clean my house when I get home tonight. I managed to get a lot of organizing done in the den on the weekend, but it required me pitching boxes out into the foyer, and that plus the shopping we did this past weekend has made a right mess of things. So I will need to get that cleaned back up. The mess is starting to drive me insane.

v. I started a cross-stitch project this weekend. It's long and skinny, so mooching the picture of the finished project from the website to post here would seriously mess up my post. Instead, you can go see it here if you're curious.

vi. All this organizing I've been doing has brought to light the fact that I have WAYYYY too much fabric. I am planning to go through it all at some point in the very near future, and then I will take the stuff I'm never going to use and first offer it up here, and then lug the rest of it to a Bransle sometime and either sell it cheap or give it away.

vii. We bought a fancy-pants vacuum this past weekend. It's the Bissell Pet Eraser and it does a freaking amazing job at lifting the cat hair out of the carpets and furniture.

viii. I can't remember if I mentioned this previously, but I got the go-ahead from my chiropractor last week to start using the fitness room in the building, AND to go back to archery. Yesterday was too insanely busy to go to archery practice, but I will very likely be there for Thursday practice this week. I'll get to break in my new wooden arrows!

ix. I have a 4-day weekend this coming weekend! Monday is Labour Day, and the boss is taking Friday off, so I decided to do the same, since it meant I could get a 4-day weekend without coming back to a massive backlog of work (which happens when he's here and I'm not). I'm really looking forward to it.

x. I think there is going to be baking with pumpkin in my future. Very possibly some pumpkin raisin bread, and I may also try making a batch of pumpkin butter. Mmmmm.

That banner looks really nice!

I'm celebrating Sept 1 by indulging in project ADD. I can start the September challenge socks today, but I just started a lace shawl that I love working on, and I need to clean up my own sock pattern charts before starting on the second sample pair... who needs food or sleep? =)

September challenge socks? *perk* I haven't knit any socks in years but I have lots of sock yarn kicking around...

I have a whole bunch of lace projects that I want to get back to, I should hook up my printer tonight after work and restart the Swan Lake stole. I have total project ADD too, I can't just work on one thing.

I figured out last month that I'm happiest when I have just one of each kind of project. Two socks and nothing else wasn't fun.

The Ravelry forum "Sock Knitters Anonymous" has monthly challenges... cast on in September, finish by the end of October, and you get entered in the monthly prize drawing. Last month there were over 300 finishers so your odds are never good, but it's always fun to have a 'reason' to be knitting, and a deadline for those of us who like them. This month is any pattern done in yellow yarn, or a Wendy Johnson pattern done in any yarn, or the mystery sock pattern where you get one clue a week throughout the month.

There are other, smaller forums for fans of CookieA's sock book or Wendy Johnson's book, but sometimes they demand you finish the whole pair within the month, or don't let you modify the toe/heel/cuff length if you want to enter the prize drawing, etc. So the SKA is really my favorite.

I was all set to start the Aeolian shawl, but the 100% silk I was using is too fiddly for the amount of patience I have right now, and then I stumbled into some gorgeous variegated Malabrigo lace. So I'm doing the Icarus shawl instead, and I'm totally in love with my new Addi lace needles.

My knitting content is over at thetexturedknitter.wordpress.com btw... I decided I wanted to divorce my fandom and gaming interests from my knitting, since someday I'd like to be a semi-pro. =)

I have never eaten pumpkin in my entire life. I think I shall try it this Autumn. ^^
