Not in AnTir, but I can identify with you on the shyness. Around trusted friends I am pretty gregarious. In groups of people I do not know I feel completely lost and I am prone to panic attacks.
I am fortunate to have been able to visit AnTir and meet many amazing people. I have found the populace of AnTir to be warm and rather generous with their time and selves.
One thin I always tell people who are new or feel new to our organization. If you see someone doing something very cool (Arts is the easy example). Ask about it. If you are impressed with their work a simple "Wow that is really spiff! What are you doing" is a good way to break the ice. It is hard and I fail at this all too often. But when I take the time to get over my fear, I find that to be a great way to meet someone new.
