Jul. 9th, 2010 01:00 pmI have a bigger post in the works, but in the meantime, I have the answers to a meme from
sihaya09. If you want to participate...
- Leave a comment saying "ORANGES" (Why? Because the meme says so, that's why.)
- I'll respond by asking you five questions.
- Update your journal with the answers to your questions.
- Include this explanation and offer to ask other people questions.
My answers to her questions:
What are your favorite gemstones?
White moonstone, amethyst (especially the rare ones that have both purple and green in them), citrine, amber (I know, not technically a gemstone, but it's the viking in me!), and thanks to you, I'm starting to develop a penchant for labradorite.
What season calls to you?
Spring and Autumn equally. I love it when it's nice and sunny out, but still cool enough that I can wear long pants/skirts and long-sleeved shirts without overheating.
Do you have a patron Deity?
Not in the sense of one that has called me to their service, not as yet. The one I'm most drawn to is Brighid.
How did you get involved in the SCA?
Years ago, a guy I went out with a few times told me about it, saying that he thought I might like it, being that it's very accepting to people of all shapes and sizes. I went home, looked it up on the internet (this was way pre-google), and decided it sounded awesome and wanted to join. At the time, I was still living at home, in a little town that didn't have a branch of the SCA, so I would need to travel at least an hour away for anything - even meetings. When I mentioned it to my mother, she said I was crazy and that I needed to get my head out of the clouds and that I wasn't allowed to go. My car was a hand-me-down from her, so I couldn't really go. About 8 months later or so, I ended up moving to the big city, which had a big SCA group, so I was able to get as involved as I wanted. It's taken me a while to find my niche, and I've taken big breaks here and there, but I love the society and am back to playing regularly again.
Illumination sounds like an awesome hobby. Tell me more about it.
Illumination, as it is referred to in my profile/interests, refers to the process of decorating a calligraphed page, like in medieval manuscripts/books. Within the SCA, calligraphed and illuminated documents are given out along with awards that are given by the higher-ups (Kings/Queens, Princes/Princess, Barons/Baronesses). I'm actually still at the beginning stages of learning to do this on my own. Most of what I've done so far is just painting in photocopied designs that have been drawn up by other people. More like colouring book pages for adults!
