My new hairdo - May 21, 2010
My new hairdo. I absolutely LOVE it.

The other recent change I've made - a nose piercing. I love it as well. :)

I'm having my adolescent rebellion 17 years too late or something. Heh. I'm REALLY happy with both my hair and the nose piercing though. And there have been no comments at all from my boss, which I think is a good thing.

So now that I TOTALLY have my hair mojo back, now I need to re-learn to put makeup on. I haven't worn makeup on a regular basis since I was a teen, and of course now I'd rather have natural and eco-conscious products, rather than the drugstore crap I used to buy back then.

Anyhow. So last Friday, I started eating gluten-free. I've wondered for a long time if it would help me - I don't have the typical symptoms of a celiac, but I do have other issues. Well, last week someone on my Facebook list was talking about going gluten-free to help her psoriasis, PCOS, depression and dry skin... all of which I have. So I figured I would give it a try too. Ian was a real butthead about the idea, at least until I turned up some research that he deemed acceptable (grrr... this is one thing that really ticks me off), so as of lunch on Friday, I started. So far I'm really not having too much trouble with it. I do have to be super careful, but as long as I keep on cooking all my meals for myself, it's not hard to find gluten free things to eat at all.

The only differences I've seen it make so far are that it's cleared up my remaining brain fog (getting my CPAP cleared up a good chunk of that, but not all), and I'm down 12 pounds since Friday! Some of the weight loss can be attributed to water weight, because I had forgotten my pills a few days in a row last week, and my feet were really swollen on Friday when I remembered and started taking them again, but I'm sure some of it is due to the gluten-free.

I've made a deal with Ian that I'm giving it a 6 week try (it was going to be a month, but [livejournal.com profile] alicia_stardust said it takes 6 weeks to really show whether or not it will help, so I've changed it to 6 weeks. If I've seen decent results after 6 weeks, I'm going to stick with it and he will (probably grudgingly) support me in it. If not, I'll go back to eating gluten.

I'm eating quite low carb, but not totally. I've been including lots of fruit and berries in my diet lately. I may eventually work up to going totally South Beach compliant, but I want to give myself a chance to get used to gluten-free first.
