big news!

As I was poked by [livejournal.com profile] kairotic elsewhere on the web, and reminded that it's been an awfully long time since I've posted, I figured it was about time I got off my butt and updated you all on my big news.

I got a new job!

In fact, I start today. I'm slowly in the process of getting ready here, but I am up much, much earlier than is really necessary, so I have plenty of time to putter around before I have to leave. This is partly due to the fact that I have a VERY short commute now! It's about a 15 to 20 minute commute from here at the most, and I'm actually working within the same community as I live now. Once I work up to walking to the train, I will need to leave about 20 minutes before I need to be at work. This is one aspect of the job I am definitely looking forward to!

I'm going to be working, once again, for a sole practitioner lawyer who does mostly family law. He seems like a really nice guy though, unlike the last one. I'm also going to have only a 30 hour work week, and flexible hours, so I will be allowed to choose what hours I want to work and how many days I want to split those 30 hours over. I haven't decided yet whether I want to do 4 days of 7.5 hour days, or 5, 6-hour days per week. I'm going to try both and see which I prefer. I'm making enough that I could stick with the 30 hours and be just fine (it works out to 2k more than my previous job, even with only 30 hours a week), but I'm contemplating various options of supplementing my income, though I haven't decided on anything yet.

So now that I will have an income again, I have many many plans. At the top of the list, is to get out more and be social. I actually did a good job of this last weekend - I had a date on Saturday night (another dud, won't be seeing him again), and then on Sunday night, Ian and I had a celebratory dinner for my new job at Shabusen downtown. Mmmm, korean barbecue. It was awesome, and I even tried fish! I had 1 piece of a tuna roll, 2 pieces of a california roll and 1 piece of a prawn tempura roll. I've decided to try and train myself to like fish, so this was a start on that goal.

When I was on my way downtown on the train on Sunday night, a couple of guys got on the train a couple stops past me dressed in tuxedos, and were carrying musical instrument cases. I asked them what group they were from, and they said the Academy Symphony, and I mentioned that I hadn't played in an ensemble since highschool and that they were making me miss it even more. I've been missing music for a long time, actually. So I am thinking that some of my extra spare time from my new job will be rectifying that.
