These days, I am walking around all bouncy and giddy. Life is GOOD. I have come to the conclusion that I have pretty much found my dream job. Work is going great, and I love it here.

I had a great mail day on Friday... my first Villainess order arrived! This is what I'd ordered myself to celebrate my new job. So far it's been awesome stuff, but I'll be doing a more detailed review at some point in the future. Here's a pic of what I ordered. There is also a bunch more photos from my weekend over on my Flickr page (and feel free to add me as a friend over there!)

I had a very busy but also very wonderful weekend. On Sunday, Ian came over in the late afternoon with a big hunk of meat (minds out of the gutter, people! it was a top sirloin roast) which he proceeded to coat with a rub made from brown sugar, coffee, cinnamon, cardamom, and a couple other spices, I think. Once that was in the oven, we relaxed with a glass of wine for a while before putting together the rest of dinner. The rest of dinner consisted of crab, chevre, dill and red pepper-stuffed phyllo triangles, stuffed mushrooms (made with the stems chopped finely and sauteed with onions and toasted pecans and then sprinkled with parmesan cheese before baking), and a risotto made with chicken stock, peas and parmesan. It was absolutely lovely.

That afternoon, I had put on a loaf of foccaccia bread with roasted garlic and parmesan in it, and also made a batch of chocolate chip banana muffins. The foccaccia recipe calls for instant yeast, but I was out, and figured I could just use regular yeast if I pre-proofed it and let it rise longer. I just didn't expect it to take 5 hours to rise enough to bake! Sheesh! It wasn't until after we had completely finished dinner and cleaned up afterwards that the bread was ready to go in the oven. So I put it in, turned the timer on, and then we headed for the bedroom... and I completely forgot about it until probably at least 2 hours later. All of a sudden I looked up, went "oh shit the bread!" and of course by then it was hard as a rock. Oh well, lesson learned... keep more instant yeast in the house! ;)

On Sunday, I packed up some projects and headed over to [livejournal.com profile] songstress1973's house. Turned out that instead of it just being her, [livejournal.com profile] gates_apco and I, she had also invited over [livejournal.com profile] morag_gunn, who is someone I knew of and recognized by sight (and I know her SO), but I hadn't actually met before. She's a lovely woman and very interesting and I'm glad I got a chance to get to know her... hopefully I'll see her at some SCA events in the future. She also brought over her absolutely ADORABLE dog, Finnegan. Finnegan is half shih tzu, half miniature pinscher, and is the second cutest dog in the world (the first being the dog belonging to my landlords). And he's SO well behaved.

We sat and stitched and watched the movie "Australia" which was really good, and had munchies and then [livejournal.com profile] songstress1973 cooked us dinner which was really yummy. The fig balsamic vinegar she got down at Granville Island the weekend before was TO DIE FOR. At some point mid-afternoon, it started snowing again... great huge fluffy flakes that immediately started accumulating on cars and the grass, which is absolutely crazy weather for her at this time of year. It continued long enough that [livejournal.com profile] morag_gunn got worried and headed home early, which was too bad, as I was really enjoying chatting with her.

I didn't end up going home until just after 10pm, so it was quite a long day.

This week, I am anticipating some more good mail days (I have a couple things ordered that should hopefully be arriving soon), but otherwise not too busy of a week... and then another fun day with Ian next Saturday.

I had a productive day today, but this evening hasn't been so great. Either I ate something that disagreed with me, or I really do have IBS. Not sure which.

On the plus side... our snow seems to be going away! It rained all day today, which is slowly melting the snow away. On the minus side... flooding. We don't have any entering the flat yet, let's hope it stays that way.

Onyx is a pretty boy, but he's a pain in the butt to photograph since he's so dark. He turned 8 months old on January 1st, and he's already bigger than my other (adult) cat. Granted, she's tiny, but still. I'm pretty darn sure he's got some maine coon in him, which means he might continue to grow until he's almost 2 years old. I suspect he's gonna be a BIG boy. But he's my sweetheart.

It just occurred to me that I haven't even talked about my New Years Resolutions yet. Unlike other years, I've only made 2 this year.

1. Get off the computer, get out more and DO STUFF.
2. Be a better friend.

So far I've been doing fairly well, actually, even considering that the snow we've gotten is really keeping me inside. I was out for a good 9 hours yesterday, and next weekend I'm planning to get out to a Knit Meetup and Three Bags Full's Belated Boxing Day Sale.

I took this picture while I was waiting for my bus on the way out this morning, and I'm rather pleased with the way it turned out. Ok, it's touched up a bit in photoshop, but I still like it.

My date went... ok, I guess. I met him at Main St. Skytrain, we bussed up to the restaurant he'd suggested but they don't do lunch, so we ended up at a pub called The Reef, which specializes in jerked meat. I had a jerked pork eggs benedict, which was yummy but I wasn't expecting the jerked meat to taste a little bit sweet, so that was kind of odd.

Afterwards we went to a jewish deli where he bought bagels and cream cheese, then we walked up to my favorite yarn store but they're closed for the holidays. After that, we hung out at his place for a while. I haven't decided yet whether or not I want there to be a 2nd date.

I've now spent a small fortune on making my glacial set for my priest, so that I'm ready for my guild's raid on Sapphiron on Monday. And I haven't even gemmed or enchanted it yet. Oy.

I’ve actually been planning to cut bangs again for a while. I finally found my embroidery scissors, so I did it this afternoon. I think it looks cute! :)

Another really good day today... though I spent the entire day thinking it was Saturday when it was really Friday. My roommate has Fridays and Saturdays off, and he had promised me awhile ago that once I cleaned out the storage room and gotten all my recyclables gathered up, he'd help me take them back to the depot. When it was all said and done, I came away with almost $20, although that was bolstered by the 10 glass milk bottles I returned, which had a $1 deposit each on them.

I had my regular Friday night raid tonight, and came away with a new wand, and enough emblems of heroism that I now had enough to pick up a new pair of shoes. I only have 2 blue items left now! We actually started with the death knight wing, and cleared that, and then went on to clear the spider and plague quarters as well. We already have the construct quarter on farm status, so that will be cleared easily on Monday, and then we can get some tries in on Sapphiron. My 10-man raid last night did a few tries on Sapph as well... that fight is going to be a bitch. But it will be fun to learn!

And now I'm off to bed. Tomorrow morning, I will need to get all my clean laundry put away (it's done, but sitting in a huge pile on my floor), and then I have a date later in the day. I'm looking forward to an interesting weekend!

Happy New Year everyone!

I've started my year off with a nice relaxing day. Despite it being a statutory holiday, my roommate had to work, so I had the flat to myself until he got home around 5pm. I had worked my tail off yesterday doing housework, so I didn't have any to do today. So I spent most of my day relaxing, playing WoW and playing with my kitties.

I'm planning to do Project 365, so here is my first pic for this year...
