Now days, Reference checks AND Credit checks are normal. Personally I think doing a credit check is bullshit because, in my case, while my creidt sucks ass, I've NEVER been late on rent or missed rent EVER, but if someone based their renting to me on my credit, they'd miss out on a good tenant... Plus, just because you have GOOD credit, doesn't make you a good person, a good person to rent to, or a godo tenant... So I think credit checks for rental purposes are pointless and just another invasion of privacy... That's my 2 cents. But so you know, you NEVER have to give your social insurance number to a landlord EVER. That is a definite breach of private information...
