weekend update
Aug. 9th, 2010 03:29 pmI had a really good weekend. It helps that it has cooled down significantly (and rained on and off all weekend), which means I feel human again, instead of like a lump of sweaty ick. It's still cool and drizzly today, and I was actually able to wear a turtleneck to work (though I packed a t-shirt with me just in case). It feels like fall. Total bliss. I just wish Starbucks had their fall flavours in already.
After work on Friday, I headed straight over to my Laurel's house. She was going through her fabric stash and de-stashing, and I need garb badly, so I wanted to see what she was getting rid of, since her stuff tends to be amazing. I picked up two lengths of fabric from her - the first a forest green wool/silk blend in a herringbone weave, and the second a lighter green wool in a herringbone weave as well. The first is going to become an apron dress for me, and the second will likely become a lightweight coat.
On Saturday, we spent the afternoon down at Granville Island. We had a late lunch at the Dockside Restaurant, which was way too expensive for what we got, and while Ian loved what he got, I was SO not impressed with my food.
We had fun wandering around, bought some interesting things to cook with, and I got the craft supplies I was wanting, mostly. I can never find the colours of silk I want at the Silk Weaver, though. I wanted two colours that would look good against the forest green wool/silk, so I could card-weave some trim, but had a really hard time figuring out what would go with it. I think I'm going to have to start dyeing my own. Oh no, another project! Hehe. I also picked up more paint at Opus Art & Framing.
Yesterday, I left Ian at home and went out in the afternoon to do the grocery shopping and make a stop at Michaels. When I was at Lissa's on Friday, I also bought two prints from her - they're notecard sized, and matted to come out to 8"x10". I really want to stop getting things and then having them sit there for ages before I get around to taking care of them, so I went out and got frames for both of those prints, as well as a cross-stitched piece I did YEARS ago. And they're up on my walls already! I wish Lissa had more stuff up on her website so I could show you which prints I got, but those ones aren't up there. One is entitled "Beer Fairy", and the other is "Viking Girl". And I already have another, larger one picked out to get at some point in the near future. I'm thinking maybe I need to encourage her to set up an Etsy shop with her prints.
