grumbling

It's been one of those weeks, and it hasn't quite stopped yet either.

After we got that notice last week, I spent the rest of my Tuesday evening and Wednesday from about noon on cleaning like a madwoman. By the time I went to bed on Wednesday, my house was so clean you could have eaten off my floors. It stayed that way for most of the weekend, but today I need to do a little bit of tidying when I get home to get it back into shape. Plus the laundry needs to be done again.

Saturday was fun - we went to Ikea, got another bar chair, and I bought some decoratey type stuff - plants etc. Then we went out for our V-Day dinner a day early, for AYCE sushi in Richmond. It was excellent and Ian LOVED the place, and I think we'll be going back there regularly. I finally tried sake, which was interesting. I know it's traditionally served warm, but I totally thought it would be better chilled.

Sunday was... not so fun. I had an art class in the afternoon, taught by my Laurel, at a mutual friend's place in Surrey. She had asked for a ride, so I picked her up at 12:15 so we could grab some lunch at the grocery store first. That was fine, and then we headed out. We got across the Patullo Bridge, and on our way up King George Highway, my car conked out. It was totally gutless, and slowed down to a crawl, and was seriously overheating. I managed to get it off the side of the road, fortunately, and my Laurel called the host of the class to come rescue her, while I called a tow truck. I had it towed to a mechanic not too far from my house, and then yesterday morning called them about fixing it.

Turns out the clutch is gone, which isn't surprising. Ian's sister had warned me that it was going to need a new one soon when I took the car over from her, and after having me learn to drive standard on it, and being a noob with it, it's totally not surprising that it's time for a new one. Fortunately, I have the money available to get it done and it won't set me back at all either.

I have finally decided what to change my username to. Yay!

I've been working on getting my SCA name and device sorted out and beginning the process of registering them. And then it hit me... what I'm using as my SCA surname (Hrafnsdottir or preferably Ravnsdottir, if I can register the latter) would make a great username for other things, changed slightly. So yesterday I changed my Twitter username to Ravnsdaughter, and shortly after posting this entry, I will be changing my LJ username to Ravnsdaughter as well. I would put the E in Raven, but it's taken already. Ravnsdottir is the period spelling, for certain chunks of time, so I decided to just modernize the dottir part but leave Ravns without the E.

And another good thing... I finally set my lampworking station back up last night! The back of the kitchen counter is working perfectly, as I suspected it would. Though I will have to watch how far I open the patio door for ventilation, as I was getting a bit too much wind last night. I made 9 beads last night, but I am definitely WAY out of practice. Towards the end, my beads were starting to look not too bad, but I think I was working the glass too hot or something, as some of them came out cloudy. I think I am going to try and get into the April session of Intro I out at Sunlight for a refresher. Unless I manage to get a lot better on my own between now and then. I certainly have enough glass to practice and play with. :)
