my boyfriend is an amazing cook
Jun. 17th, 2009 07:47 amI'm tiiiiiiiiiiiiired.... zzzzz.....
Ian came over after work yesterday, and ended up staying over even though I usually send him home before bed when he comes over during the week, and since he has to be at work at 7am when he's on day shift, we were both up at 5:15. This meant I got in to work at 6:45, which is actually a really good thing because I need to leave at 12:30 today to be downtown in time for my counseling appointment.
My cold was pretty much the shortest cold ever, so I was able to reschedule the counseling appointment really quickly. I'm quite looking forward to it, and starting to work on the few remaining issues in my life (my health and my relationship with money).
I had a package of ribs in the fridge which needed cooking, so Ian took that task on, and rather than just use a pre-made barbecue sauce, he decided to make one himself. He came up with a spice mix that was remeniscent of a Kashmiri masala, and other than the fact that we didn't put enough on the ribs, it was absolutely fantastic. There was lots left over so I'm going to try it on grilled chicken next. I wrote down the proportions as we went so that we can replicate it, though I didn't manage to get any pictures before we devoured the food. We're going to be starting a cooking/food weblog together, so we really need to get better at photographing things before they get eaten.
He also stopped at the little liquor store at Westminster Quay on the way over, and picked up a couple of bottles of cider made by Merridale Cider, a cidery over on Vancouver Island. He had found this place on the web, and had wanted to incorporate a side trip to the cidery into our trip to visit my parents in August, but we won't have time. So he looked into where he could get some of their cider locally. He brought over a litre of each of their traditional and berry ciders, and while I didn't care for the traditional, as it was way too dry for my tastes, the berry was TO DIE FOR. I will definitely have it again.
